Entrepreneurship

Wisconsin has a strong tradition of entrepreneurship. Harley-Davidson, SC Johnson, Culvers, Kohl’s, Kohler, Johnson Controls, Menards, and Trek Bicycle Corporation, Cousins Subs and Miller Brewing Company are all famous companies that were started in Wisconsin. While company startups only account for 3 percent of employment, they account for almost 20 percent of gross job creation, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research. Companies that survive that first five years grow faster than more mature companies, creating a disproportionate share of jobs relative to their size. Consequently, entrepreneurs play a vital role both in job creation and in satisfying consumer needs in new and more effective ways.

Entrepreneurs have lots of valuable resources they can tap to guide them on their journey if they are willing to invest the time and effort. Below are some of the most common regional resources that are utilized by entrepreneurs. Many of these services are free or have a low cost.
